Kokikai is a Ki style of Aikido, and translates as the group with radiant Ki. This means that when you see people practising Kokikai Aikido you can see them using their inner power. We can practise to develop this Ki power through training and Ki exercises that help us to become stronger in mind and body.

Kokikai is a relaxed and natural form of Aikido where we practise to become more powerful without relying on strength by following the four basic principles:
Kokikai Aikido Four Basic Principles
  1. Keep one point [+]
to develop calmness. Keeping your mind and body coordinated helps concentration in practise and also helps with daily life.
  2. Relax [+]
progressively. Being relaxed allows more natural and quicker movement and does not waste energy on unnecessary tension.
  3. Correct posture [+]
Being upright and tall in all things allows better breathing, awareness and helps to develop your confidence.
  4. Positive Mind [+]
Developing a positive attitude to practise will help overcome obstacles and bring happiness to you and those around you.

Shuji Maruyama sensei, founder and president of Kokikai Aikido says "Minimum effort for maximum effect" and that "the most natural state is the most powerful". We concentrate on these things to develop better technique and to improve our technique and ourselves in daily life.
